Specialist Officer at F 16

F 16 offers a tailored training program for specialist officers for those with a military background and one of the following qualifications:

  • A degree of at least 180 higher education credits in a relevant field with a written thesis of at least 15 credits.
  • A corresponding degree or completed quality-assured and certified vocational training.
  • Completed relevant professional and position courses within the Armed Forces (YBK) where the regulations governing the training are the same regardless of civilian or military education.

Training

The training lasts between 12-18 months depending on previous experiences in the Armed Forces, and upon graduation, you will be appointed as Sergeant. The entire training is conducted with an employment according to §20 of the Officer Ordinance with associated benefits. Here you have the opportunity to receive a unique education that combines theory with practice and focuses on specialized knowledge in your chosen career direction. The employment begins with you completing the necessary training to become a fully qualified professional officer. F 16 develops a competency development plan together with you based on your previous military experiences, which means that the training setup can vary. Parts of the training will take place at one of our military academies and at the relevant school based on the developed competency development plan.

Job Responsibilities

As a specialist officer, you are an expert in your field. The specialist officer is responsible for military core competencies, participates in combat situations, and ensures that other leaders' decisions are followed and applied. It is also the responsibility of the specialist officer to train and exercise group leaders, soldiers, and sailors to perform in combat situations and other types of missions. A combination of pedagogy, leadership, and theory gives you the mental strength needed to be a good leader who takes responsibility for personnel and operations. As an officer, you are a role model who enjoys leading people to collaborate and perform their best.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • A degree of at least 180 higher education credits in a relevant field with a written thesis of at least 15 credits, or a corresponding degree or completed quality-assured and certified vocational training, or completed relevant professional and position courses within the Armed Forces (YBK), where the regulations governing the training are the same regardless of civilian or military education.
  • Completed military basic training and position training for at least 10 months (GU)
  • Completed group leader training (GBU) with a passing result at the start of school.
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Acting in accordance with the FM Values and Code of Conduct
  • Approved security clearance (conducted during the recruitment process)
  • Approved requirement level according to the Armed Forces' requirement profiles (conducted during the recruitment process).

Personal Qualities

As a specialist officer, you are required to be responsible and meticulous in solving tasks. You are a person who takes responsibility, seeks and drives your work tasks forward, is dynamic, and supports where needed. You work well independently and can structure your own working time but also have the ability to collaborate and work in smaller teams. It is expected that you can see longer processes and can independently adapt your work tasks based on a larger goal. You are not averse to actively sharing ideas and challenging work methods within your defined work area. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Other

Employment type: Permanent employment according to §20 of the Officer Ordinance. The Armed Forces may apply a six-month probationary period.
Employment degree: Full-time
Work location: Service location Uppsala with travel to the relevant study location.
Working hours: Mainly daytime. Evening and weekend work may occur during training activities. SOFU participants are exempt from working time regulations and therefore do not have the right to work-time dependent supplements such as FM days and travel time compensation during training.
Start date: Autumn 2026
Salary: Individual salary setting applies during training

Information about the Armed Forces and the recruiting unit:

Uppland Air Wing, F 16, is headquartered at Uppsala Garrison. The unit is part of the Swedish Air Force and is responsible for the operation and surveillance of Uppsala Airport as well as the training of conscripts in various positions within the Air Force. The unit also leads the 161st Combat Control and Air Surveillance Battalion, which commands fighter aircraft in the air and maintains the constant surveillance of Swedish airspace. The unit operates from several locations in the country and constitutes an important part of the growth period that the Air Force is facing.
